What Precisely is Dedicated Servers Web Hosting?
When we speak of hosting web servers, there are three main categories - shared web hosting web servers, VPS (virtual web servers) and dedicated web hosting servers. Shared web hosting servers accommodate lots of clients and therefore the system resources per hosting account are restricted, virtual private server plans offer more configuration liberty, but also affect other Virtual Private Servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the option to carry out everything you like without intervening with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated web hosting server?
16 GB DDR4 ECC REG RAM
2x240 GB nvme Hard Drives
32 GB DDR4 ECC REG RAM
2x480 GB nvme Hard Drives
Dedicated servers are traditionally much more expensive than shared hosting servers or Virtual Private Servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The answer is rather simple. If your corporation has a large-scale online portal, or just has very explicit web server architecture requirements, the most reasonable option would be a dedicated server. For someone who is ready to invest in security and stability, the higher price is of no concern. You are granted root-level access and can utilize 100% of the server's system resources without anyone else sharing these system resources and intervening with your online portals.
Hardware architectures
Most shared web hosting companies, incl. us at Website Handyman, provide several different hardware configurations you can choose from on the basis of your needs. The configurations include different sorts of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server hard disk sizes and different web traffic allowances. You can choose a hosting CP, which is a useful user interface if you would like to use the server for web hosting purposes only and prefer not to use an SSH client for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three sorts of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The Control Panel of your choice
If you are a confident Linux user (our dedicated hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated server through a Secure Shell tunnel exclusively. That, however, could be inconvenient, particularly if you choose to give full root access to somebody else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. This is why having Control Panel software installed is a good idea. The Hepsia Control Panel software tool that we provide does not include complete root-level access and is mainly appropriate for somebody who has plenty of sites that demand lots of system resources, but wants to manage the web sites, databases and email boxes via an intuitive Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, grant full server root access and offer 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell web hosting accounts instead of utilizing the dedicated web hosting server only for yourself, you should pick one of these two.
Server monitoring and backup services
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated web hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your hosting server, like a non-responsive Apache or a network downtime, it is advisable to have some sort of monitoring platform enabled. Here at Website Handyman the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated web hosting server too. Backups are also a bonus option - the hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a type of RAID that would permit you to keep the same data on 2 hard disk drives as a precaution in the event of a server hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given full root access deletes something accidentally.
